The Living Lab 70 GW Offshore Wind exhibited at WindEnergy Hamburg 2026 alongside its partners from the Wind Energy Research Consortium at the joint booth of the State of Lower Saxony.

The centerpiece of the trade show presentation was an exhibit that illustrated the ongoing measurement campaigns in the living lab. A digital visualization showcased the various measurement systems and their application in the wind farm cluster under study. In addition, key elements of the measurement campaigns were recreated as a three-dimensional model using building blocks. This made it possible to clearly convey the complex and interconnected measurements and to discuss the questions of the living lab with visitors.

Another focus was on engaging with the trade show audience. Each day of the trade show, the living lab posed a different question for discussion at its booth. Visitors’ feedback and perspectives are incorporated into the project’s dialogue-oriented formats and support the co-design and co-evaluation approaches, which involve relevant stakeholder groups in shaping and reflecting on the research activities.

The measurement campaigns currently underway are providing a comprehensive database for further research in the living lab. Among other things, the research is examining the interactions between large-scale offshore wind energy development, the atmosphere, the ocean, and other uses of the maritime space.

WindEnergy also provided an opportunity to exchange ideas with representatives from academia, industry, government, and politics regarding current research and the future development of offshore wind energy.
