Living Lab 70 GW Offshore Wind presented to leading players from politics and research
The Living Lab 70 GW Offshore Wind was recently the focus of several visits by high-ranking political and scientific delegations to ForWind’s Oldenburg WindLab.
Representatives of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture (MWK), university management and heads of renowned research institutions in Lower Saxony, who accompanied Lower Saxony’s Science Minister Falko Mohrs on his trip to Groningen, were informed comprehensively about the current state of research and the particular challenges of the new living lab approach. ForWind Managing Director Stephan Barth accompanied the delegation to the Netherlands, whose active interest underlined the strategic importance of practical research for regional and international energy transitions.
Two weeks later, the Presidium of the Lower Saxony State Parliament, accompanied by a delegation from the Grand Council of the Canton of Bern, also visited the living lab. After a presentation by Prof. Dr. Kerstin Avila on the principles and objectives of the real-world laboratory and detailed discussions on the current challenges of wind energy research, the visitors were able to see the importance and practical possibilities of the research work for themselves in a demonstration in the wind tunnel.
These visits strengthened the dialog and cooperation between the living laboratory and key players from politics and science, thus sending positive signals for our further research work.
