TEN.efzn - The strategic further development of Lower Saxony's inter- and transdisciplinary energy research landscape

The 70 GW Offshore Wind living lab is part of TEN.efzn and works with all research platforms on overarching issues relating to the energy transformation

Joint research for a climate-neutral future: The transformation of our energy system is a joint task that requires ideas and innovations from science. These arise above all through close cooperation and intensive exchange between different fields of research. To this end, TEN.efzn is massively expanding interdisciplinary, cross-location energy research in Lower Saxony.

Divided into six closely interlinked research platforms, the program combines the key strengths of Lower Saxony’s energy research and also opens up new innovative fields of research. A unique selling point is that technical and scientific energy research is combined with social science transformation research, thus creating a broad perspective for practical implementation.

The research platforms are linked via an innovative transfer system that promotes the exchange between science, business, politics and civil society and supports the practical implementation of research results, the training of specialists and the development of innovations and start-ups. The overarching goal of TEN.efzn is the strategic further development and reprofiling of energy research in Lower Saxony by 2030.

The state and the Volkswagen Foundation are funding the joint project with a total of 58.2 million euros from the zukunft.niedersachsen program. This is the highest amount of funding that the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture has ever approved for a cross-location research program in energy research.

Through the transfer area and the Social Dynamics research platform, all research platforms are networked with each other in terms of content. Interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary exchange between the platforms takes place at regular events organized by the TEN.efzn research network. For the researchers in the living lab, there is always the opportunity to look for new points of contact and questions beyond their own subject boundaries.

The other research platforms in TEN.efzn are:

Trustworthy digitalization of safety-critical energy systems

Landesgraduiertenkolleg Hydrogen and hydrogen derivative ammonia

Heat

Geoenergy systems

Social dynamics of energy transformation
